Connect your classroom to careers and real-world insights with Career Connect. Educators, learn more with the Educator How-To Video: Career Connect, or follow these steps to get started:
Step 1: Access Career Connect
Access Career Connect through your Discovery Education homepage under Curriculum Packs. Alternatively, navigate directly to app.thisiscareerconnect.com.
Don’t see Career Connect in product? Reach out to your district admin to learn more.
Step 2: Accept the privacy policy and terms and confirm your profile
Verify the profile information pulled from your Discovery Education account. Add a profile picture and select Continue to Career Connect.
Step 3: Explore your Dashboard
After profile setup, you can access your Dashboard - this is your control center to manage requests, view recommended guest speakers, browse organization content, and more.
Step 4: Create a New Request
Select the Create a New Request button on the top right of your Dashboard.
Two types of requests are there for your convenience.
- The Share my Career request is a general format that allows guest speakers to share their journey, skills and career choices, offering your students a glimpse into how they've translated their interests as young students into their careers today.
- The Custom Request is a customizable format that allows you to collaborate with your guest speaker and tailor content to suit your class's learning objectives.
Once you've filled out your request details, specify the date, time and subject areas you'd like your guest speaker to focus on. Include any suggested topics, agendas, or guest speaker preferences in the description section.
If your district mandates certain video conferencing tools such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams, include the invite links here.
Step 5: Submit your request
Submit your request and we’ll start matching you with guest speakers you may be interested in. Once your request is submitted, guest speakers in the platform will be able to view your request and apply if they think they may be a good fit. Be sure to check
back and review your applications. You will also be able to Direct Request guest speakers you think would be a good fit.
Once a guest speaker is approved, all applicants will be notified, and you will be able to message with the guest speaker you chose.
Edit your requests at any time before the scheduled date. All request details can be edited but the selected subject areas, these cannot be changed.
Step 6: Message
Once you match with a guest speaker, your request becomes a Connect. You can start messaging the guest speaker to ask or answer questions before the scheduled visit.
To access your messages, navigate to the side menu and select Messages.
Step 7: Connect
It’s time for your Career Connect virtual visit. On your Dashboard, you will see a Join Call button appear in your Upcoming Connect 15 minutes before the scheduled start time.
When you’re ready, click Join Call and begin your virtual visit. Be sure to click “Allow Camera and Microphone access” in your browser to ensure a seamless visit. Guest speaker can’t hear you? Make sure you’re not muted.
You will be able to message guest speakers during the call and view request details. You will also be able to share screen and expand your view.
Step 8: Share your feedback
Career Connect is the first of its kind and you’re testing out an exciting new experience. We’d love to hear your feedback on how your virtual visit went, if there were any technical issues, or if you have suggestions on how to improve the platform. Your feedback is immensely valuable to us and we’re always focused on improving the educator experience.
