Discovery Education Techbook allows you to edit most summative assessments, offering greater flexibility and customization to meet classroom needs. You can update assessments to align more closely with lesson plans and create multiple versions tailored to the diverse needs of students.
How to Access Editing
To access editable assessments in Techbook, follow these steps:
- Open an assessment in Techbook. Note that Performance Based Assessments are not editable.
- Select Edit in the top right.
When you open a new version of an assessment to edit, it appears in an editing window. This allows the original assessment to remain unchanged for future use.
How to use the Editing Interface
You can easily make all necessary edits directly within the new version of an assessment in the editing window.
Top Action Bar
From the top action bar in the assessment editor, you have access to the following.
- Undo: For single editing actions
- Redo: For single editing actions
- Revert to Original: Discard all changes and return to original
-
Limit Answers: This feature applies to multiple-choice questions and allows teachers to limit answer options to meet specific student needs. For questions with a single correct answer, the setting removes incorrect answer options so that only three options are present. For questions with multiple correct answers (such as matching), the setting removes incorrect options so only six options are present. Note: Correct answers will never be removed as this would impact what is being assessed.
-
If the Limit Answers setting cannot be applied to a question, it will display a circle icon. You can then choose to either delete the question or keep it, depending on student needs.
-
- Language: Displays the languages the assessment is available in. Students see assessment versions based on their language settings.
- Save and Exit: Rename the assessment for easier access before saving and exiting.
Left Side Menu
From the left side editing menu, you can preview each of the questions in an assessment, including question type, standard coverage, and question content.
You also have access to the following:
Add New Question:
Select a type of question to add - Multiple Choice, Multiple Select, or Short Answer.
Add Translated Versions of Questions:
You can enhance assessments by including translated versions of questions. If an assessment is available in both English and Spanish, you can add your own questions while maintaining both language options.
The languages allowed depend on the original assessment. If an original assessment is only in English, you can only create questions in English. If an original assessment includes both Spanish and English, you can author questions in both languages. Note that including a question in only one language limits the test to that language. To preserve multiple-lingual settings in the assessment, all supported language options must have a version of the added question
Re-order questions:
Easily rearrange questions in an assessment by dragging and dropping them into your desired order.
Delete a question:
Select the trash can icon to remove a question from an assessment.
How to Access All Versions of an Assessment
You can create multiple versions of an assessment to best meet student needs. Assessment versions are always accessible in the following ways:
- Directly in a Techbook Assessment: If there are multiple versions of an assessment available, they all appear under Multiple Versions of this Assessment.
- From My Content: Learn more about saving assessments to My Content here.
