Assessment Builder creates Practice, Standards-Based, and Concept-Based Technology Enhanced Assessments. When you create an assessment, use a searchable bank of items and/or custom questions.
Access Assessment Builder
Select Assessment Builder from the Global Nav in the top left.
Create a New Assessment
Select Create Assessment to get started.
Then, select one of the following:
- Practice Assessment: Select questions from a bank or add your own questions to create an assessment.
- Concept-Based Assessment: Create an assessment based on items specific to a Discovery Education Techbook Concept.
- Standards-Based Assessment: search a bank of assessment items based on grade level and standards.
Create a Practice Assessment
Select Practice Assessment and follow the prompts to provide Title and Instructions, then save to one of your My Content folders.
There are two ways to add questions to your assessment:
- Create Item. Here, customize your question(s).
- Search for Items: Here, use questions from a question bank.
Create Items
To create items, follow these steps:
- Select Create Item.
- Choose from Single, Multiple, Selection, or Constructed Response question.
- Enter your Question Prompt and Responses, Scoring, and optional Metadata.
- Select Save Draft > Add to Assessment in the top right.
Search for Items
To use ready made assessment items that match your unit, navigate to Search for Items and follow these steps:
- Enter your keyword and select Search.
- Use filters, such as Item Types (e.g., Selected Response, Drop Down, Select Text); Courses (e.g., Grades 6-8 Life Science, Grades 3-5 Earth Science); and Categories (e.g., Summative, Practice Formative), to narrow your findings.
- Select +Add to move an item to your assessment.
Create a Concept-Based Assessment
Select Concept-Based Assessment and follow the prompts to provide Title and Instructions, then save to one of your My Content folders.
Build a concept assessment to monitor performance against concepts. Keyword and item type filters are also available.
To create, follow these steps.
- Select the desired fields in Search Items by Concept.
- Select one or more standards from the results.
- Select Search for Items with Selected Concept.
- Filter the results by Item Types (e.g., Selected Response, Drop Down, Select Text) and Categories (e.g., Summative, Practice Formative).
- Select +Add to move an item to your assessment.
Create a Standards-Based Assessment
Select Standards-Based Assessment and follow the prompts to provide Title and Instructions, then save to one of your My Content folders.
Build a standards assessment to monitor performance against standards. Keyword and item type filters are also available.
To create, follow these steps:
- Select the desired fields in Search Items by Standard.
- Select one or more standards from the results.
- Select Search for Items with Selected Standards.
- Filter the results by Item Types (e.g., Selected Response, Drop Down, Select Text) and Categories (e.g., Summative, Practice Formative).
- Select +Add to move an item to your assessment.
Assign an Assessment
When you are done adding items, select Assign.
Then, follow these steps:
- Step 1 - Title and Instructions: Give the assignment a title and write instructions and select Next.
- Step 2 - Assign to: Select entire classes or a group of students within your classes and select Next.
- Step 3 - Schedule: Select the start and due dates of the assignment and select Assign.
- Step 4 - Confirmation: View confirmation of the assignment.
To view the newly assigned Assessment in your Classroom Manager, select View Assignment Manager. To close and continue, select Okay.
