Discovery Education Social Studies Techbook Dashboard is a data collection and student engagement tool. All data collected from completed student activities, including embedded technology-enhanced item responses, feed to Dashboard.
Overview
Social Studies Techbook includes the following dashboards:
- Concept Dashboard which includes formative assessment data from the concept.
- Course Assessments dashboard which includes summative assessment data from the concept.
To access, select Results from the Toolbar.
You can also access from the More section of the Toolbar.
Concept Dashboard
The Concept Dashboard displays formative assessment student data that corresponds to the 5E Inquiry Learning Process: Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate. To learn more, see Inquiry Learning and the 5E Model of Instruction with Social Studies Techbook.
From the top action bar, explore the following:
- Concept dropdown menu. Navigate through the Concepts in a Unit.
- Activity dropdown menu. Navigate 5E sections with formative assessments (embedded technology-enhanced items).
To view student data, select a 5E section from the Activity dropdown menu. Responses are automatically scored and color-coded as No Points, Some Points, All Points, Not Answered, or Needs Score.
Note that Refresh in the top action bar updates the incoming results in real-time. By default, results display anonymously. To view student responses with student information identified, deselect Hide Student Names.
To view results from a different class or grouping of students, use the Class drop-down menu and select the desired class.
Score Results
Because of their open-text nature, some technology-enhanced items must be manually scored. Once a student submits their response for that item, a Needs Score notification appears in the Concept Dashboard.
Evaluation Criteria prepared by Discovery Education accompanies assignments in Dashboard. Students have access to the evaluation criteria, or rubric, for activities prior to submitting work.
When you score an activity, follow these steps:
- Select the appropriate student performance criteria levels.
- Add any comments
- Submit the evaluation.
Note that students can monitor their results on the Student Dashboard.
Course Assessments Dashboard
The Course Assessments dashboard contains the summative assessments in each chapter for a course. From this Dashboard, assign assessments directly to students. Once assigned, access student results from this dashboard.
Assigned Assessment Dashboard
Create assessments with the Assessment Builder, or use ready-to-assign Chapter-level assessments located in Chapter Assessments and Resources.
Learn more about viewing student results for assigned assessments, or any assigned content, in Manage Assignments.
