Access Discovery Education within Schoology as well as embed resources in assignments and materials to keep all of your learning in a single place for students.

Access Discovery Education in Schoology

Your district sets up the Schoology and Discovery Education integration. Once this is complete, the Discovery Education option is in the menu bar of any course in Schoology.

When you select Discovery Education from the menu a window opens to access Discovery Education within Schoology. From here, you can search for resources, access channels, and explore products your school has access to.

When you explore Discovery Education from this window, you can assign resources, share resources, and engage with Discovery Education as you would from the platform.

Note that if you assign your students resources through this window in Schoology, they appear within Discovery Education's assignments - not within Schoology.

Embed Discovery Education Resources in Schoology Materials

Discovery Education resources, such as videos, images, audio, text, and more, can be embedded into Schoology materials. 

To add a Discovery Education resource as a Schoology Material, follow these steps: 

1. Select Materials from the left menu bar to open up the materials for a course.
2. If needed, create new folders.
3. Navigate to Add Materials and select Discovery Education.
4. Use the search box to type in a keyword. A page of search results opens. Filter these to narrow down resources. 
5. Select a resource to view. To navigate back to search results, select Back.
6. To use a resource for an assignment, select Embed. The resource appears in the list of materials.
7. Once a resource is added to the Materials list, select the gear next to the material to edit the grading features and due dates. 

Once a resource is embedded in a Schoology material and grading is turned on, grades work like all Schoology assignments. Students engage with the Discovery Education resource and complete the Schoology assignment as directed. Then, teachers grade the Schoology assignment like any other assignment. 

Share Studio Boards & Slideshows

Create Studio projects within the Discovery Education platform (either via the webpage or the embedded access within Schoology) to share with students. Learn more about Studio. 

Studio projects with no quiz modules

If a Studio board (digital poster) or slideshow (digital presentation) does not have quiz modules embedded, it is sharable in a Schoology module. To do this, copy the Share URL for a Studio project and paste it into the body of the Schoology material. Note that this places all students on a single board with read-only access. Collaborative Studio Projects 

For a Studio board (digital poster) or slideshow (digital presentation) to be collaborative, it needs to be shared within the Discovery Education platform. Note that Schoology can be used to alert students to log into Discovery Education so they can access assignments. Learn more about creating collaborative Studio projects. 

Alternatively, all Studio projects can be assigned within the Discovery Education platform. A student would select Mark as Complete (if no quiz modules) or Submit Assignment (with quiz modules) in Discovery Education and a teacher could track results in Classrooms.

Embed Studio Quizzes and Assessment Builder Assignments

You can embed Studio Quizzes and assignments created in Assessment Builder into Schoology materials with options for grade passback. 

To embed a Studio Quiz or Assessment Builder assignments in a Schoology Material, follow these steps: 

1. Select Materials from the left menu bar to open up the materials for a course.
2. If needed, create new folders. 
3. Navigate to Add Materials and select Discovery Education.
4. Select Find Assessments > My Assessments
5. Locate the Studio Quiz or Assessment Builder assignment to assign.   
6. To use a resource for an assignment, select Embed. 
7. Once an assessment has been added to the Materials list, click the gear next to the material to edit the grading features and due dates. 

Grade Discovery Education Assessments in Schoology

Students complete the assessment directly in Schoology. Once complete, view the results in the Schoology gradebook.

Assessments with Single or Multiple Selection questions passback the grade directly into the gradebook. Assessments with short answer questions must be graded inside the Discovery Education platform. Access the assignment in Classrooms and grade it there.

Note that Discovery Education and Schoology have a sync set up to run every 5 minutes. Once an assessment is graded in Discovery Education, it syncs back to the Schoology gradebook in the next sync. 

Embed Techbook Assessments in Schoology

If you have access to Techbook products - Math, Science, Social Studies - you have the option to embed Techbook assessments in Schoology with grade passback options. 

To embed a Discovery Education Techbook Assessment in a Schoology assignment, follow these steps: 

1. Select Materials from the left menu bar to open up the materials for a course.
2. If needed, create new folders.  
3. Navigate to Add Materials and select Discovery Education.
4. Select Find Assessments.
5. Select the desired assessment using the filter dropdowns. Select a course and then a concept to drill down to the appropriate assessment.
6. Select +Embed to use an assessment. 
7. Once an assessment has been added to the Materials list, click the gear next to the material to edit the grading features and due dates. 

Grade Discovery Education Assessments in Schoology

Students complete the assessment directly in Schoology. Once complete, the teacher can view the results in their Schoology gradebook.

Assessments with Single or Multiple Selection questions passback the grade directly into the gradebook.

Assessments with Short Answer questions must be graded inside the Discovery Education platform. To do this, follow these steps: 

1. Navigate to the My Classrooms tile on the My DE homepage.
   
2. Select Assignments from the left menu. 
3. Change the Date Range dropdown to All. Select Apply. 
   
4. Change the Class Name dropdown to the course name that matches your Schoology course name. Select Apply. 
5. Locate the assignment and select View Results to review the short answer responses. 
   

Note that Discovery Education and Schoology have a sync set up to run every 5 minutes. Once an assessment is graded in Discovery Education, it syncs back to the Schoology gradebook in the next sync. 

Student View in Schoology

Similar to a teacher, students can access Discovery Education from the Schoology menu. From here, students search for resources, explore virtual field trips, or view any assignments assigned through Discovery Education. Note that Assignments assigned through Discovery Education appear on this screen. Assignments assigned through Schoology appear in the Materials section of Schoology.

Student Access to Assignments

Students can access Materials from the left menu bar in Schoology. If the material is a resource and the student is logged into Discovery Education, it displays for the students to interact with the media within the Schoology window. If a Studio project link is shared in Schoology, it opens the board or slideshow in the Discovery Education platform. 

If the assignment includes a Studio Quiz, students can advance the pages/slides as necessary and answer the questions embedded in the Studio board within Schoology. When complete, they select Submit Assignment. 

If the material is a Techbook assessment, students select Take Assessment and answer the questions. Students use the arrows at the top to move forward and backwards through the questions. From the final question, they can select Submit.

The Students Results page appears to let the students know how they did on the assessment.
