Overview
Elementary Science Techbook is a comprehensive program with high-quality lessons, age-appropriate scientific readings and hands-on investigations for students that follows the 5E instructional model. This interactive program is full of resources that bring science to life for students.
How do students access Science Techbook?
Students can log in to Science Techbook from any device at home or school. From their dashboard, they can:
- Jump back into their most recently accessed Course or Lesson
- Explore assigned content
- Use Search to find engaging resources
- Explore Studio to share learning in a creative way
- Access My Content (their personal folder system)
- And more!

How do students access assignments?
When a student logs in to Science Techbook, all Assignments are accessible from their Dashboard. Students can see which assignments are Active, Overdue, Due Today, and Done.

What tools do students have access to?
From the top action bar, students have fast access to the following:
- My Notes: Throughout a course, students can highlight text on a page and add notes, as well as add notes to any existing highlights. Learn more about My Notes below.
- Glossary: With the Interactive Glossary, students can access vocabulary words, definitions, and explanations. Learn more about Glossary below.
- Tools: Throughout a course, students can access tools such as: Calculator, Unit Converter, Scientific Caluclator, Graphing Calculator, and Whiteboard.
- Language: Students can toggle between English and Spanish and change the reading level in literacy lessons for grades 3-5.
- More: From the 3-dot menu, students can access the following: Glossary, Notebook, Add to Favorites, Add to My Content.
How do students change the language from English to Spanish?
At any time, students can toggle between English and Spanish from the top action bar.
How do students change the reading level?
At any time, students can toggle between reading levels from the top action bar. Reading Level A is on grade level. Reading Level B is approximately two grade levels below. Note that Reading level B is only available for grades 3-5. If a reading level is not available, it does not appear in the dropdown menu.
Reading Level B is not available.
How do students use My Notes?
Students can highlight text in Science Techbook, add notes, and save them.
Saved notes are then available to students in My Notes.
How do students access the their notes?
Lesson Slide Notes
From the top action bar, students select My Notes.
If a student took a note on a slide, it appears when they select My Notes.
If a student did not take a note on a slide, My Notes opens with a message that says there are no notes, yet.
Full Notebook
To access the full Notebook, click on the 3-dot menu in the top action bar and select Notebook.
The Notebook opens in a new window. To access all notes from a Unit, select All Notes.
Add new notes or view existing notes from this section.
How do students use the Glossary?
At any time, students can access the Glossary from the top action bar of a Lesson slide.
When the pop-up window opens, you'll see a list of Glossary words for the current lesson. To access vocabulary from other lessons, use the dropdown menu. You can also use the Search function to quickly find a specific word.
Each term includes a combination of the following:
- An animation that helps describe the term.
- Details that include a definition and key context sentences for the term.
- A video segment discussing the term, and images or diagrams.
Vocabulary words in a Lesson appear as clickable text. Clicking a term opens its definition in the Glossary in a new window.
Students can also preview all of the upcoming vocabulary terms on their Concept home page and select any term for direct access to the glossary.
How do students access Immersive Reader?
Immersive Reader is available wherever the Immersive Reader Icon is located. All of the Lesson Slideshows have Immersive Reader available. To use, simply select the icon to access a wide variety of tools to improve reading comprehension. Learn more about Immersive Reader.
